Northeast Raleigh, NC

Michelle MacDonna is a dually certified Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is originally from Virginia where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She then earned her Master of Public Health degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a focus on Occupational and Environmental Health. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing with an Adult Health Nurse Practitioner concentration. She completed a post-master’s certificate as a family nurse practitioner with the Frontier Nursing School in Hyden, Kentucky. She is also a 2014 Duke Johnson and Johnson Fellow and completed a transformational health project to help promote wellness to populations of individuals in the work-place setting.

Ms. MacDonna spent ten years with the Johns Hopkins Health system working as a registered nurse on the Cardiac Progressive Care unit and was involved with multiple research studies that included medication discrepancies occurring with hospital discharges, communication barriers between patients and providers, and long-term outcomes in patients utilizing ventilation management in the ICU. As a nurse practitioner, she worked in a rural area of Maryland to provide managed care to the homeless population. In 2012, she moved to North Carolina and worked with employees at their worksite to promote wellness and provide care as an occupational health nurse practitioner. She has enjoyed working with individuals and populations of the community and completed a medical mission trip in Guatemala.

Ms. MacDonna believes there is not a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to a patient’s plan of care. Genetics, environmental factors, the patient’s resources, and motivation all play an important role in customizing the patient’s medical treatment. Ms. MacDonna believes in using holistic, evidence-based medicine; furthermore, she believes nutrition and mental health play a significant role in the patient’s quality of life and is excited to work with a multi-disciplinary team of pharmacists, dietitians, and licensed clinical social workers to provide optimal outcomes in one setting.

Ms. MacDonna is happily married with two beautiful and active children. She enjoys quality time with her family and looks forward in traveling to the various national parks throughout the U.S.
