Commonly Asked Questions

Is Avance Care using an accurate antibody test?

There are over 130 different brands of COVID antibody tests on the market, and Avance Care is using one of only 8 tests available nationwide with “Emergency Use Authorization”. EUA is a designation from the FDA for tests which have undergone rigorous standards in development.

How do I get an antibody test and how much does it cost?

Call or book a telehealth or in-person appointment with an Avance Care provider. COVID-19 antibody testing is covered by almost all insurances without co-pay or cost sharing. Self-pay cost for each antibody test is $100 and $75 with an Avance Care discount card.

Should I get a test?

It is very reasonable for someone to get an antibody test who wants to know if or thinks they had COVID-19, but the tests have limitations simply because we don’t know everything about the virus.

When should I get a test if I think I had COVID-19?

It takes 1-3 weeks for your body to make antibodies after COVID-19 symptoms occur.

What if the test is positive?

If the test is positive, it means you probably were infected with COVID-19 in the past. You still may get COVID-19 again, but if COVID-19 acts like most other viruses, you will have some immunity. No one knows how long you may have immunity. We say the test is not an “immunity passport” but can still be very informative to a patient and their provider.

All positive antibody tests are reported to your local health department by law.

If your test is positive, we still recommend you follow all the measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

What if the test is negative?

A negative test means it is unlikely you were infected with COVID-19 in the past.
