Extended Hours Appointments

Primary care includes family medicine, nurse practitioners, pediatrics, care management, specialty services like behavioral health and nutrition, and other general healthcare needs. Primary care not only treats conditions as symptoms arise, but can be useful as preventative care to detect issues before they become chronic conditions. Furthermore, primary care follows you as you age, so you maintain the best health at all stages of life.

What is a PCP?

Primary care professionals are often the first introduction for patients to the healthcare system.

A primary care provider (PCP) is the main doctor helping manage your care. A patient’s PCP deeply understands their health history and can best coordinate their care. PCPs often specialize in a particular area of medicine, such as family medicine, pediatrics, geriatric care, or preventative care. A PCP is per-person, so each member of a family can have a different PCP.

PCPs follow patients as they age, providing what’s known as “continuity of care”. This means the same PCP can establish a relationship with patients that allows them to manage patients’ health appropriately as they age. They also are able to better coordinate care if patients must navigate lifestyle changes or hospital visits.

Why Choose Primary Care?

Primary care is beneficial because patients have a PCP that keeps track of their continuous care instead of moving records from hospital to hospital, and services are centrally managed. PCPs understand the bigger picture of a patient’s health, help keep hospital care in-network, and provide ongoing care, including checkups, screenings, and immunizations.

Plus, primary care overall saves time and money. People with PCPs save 33% on healthcare as opposed to those who only see specialists. The closer a patient is to their PCP, the more easily they can be seen and treated — they may be able to get their questions answered via call or virtual visit instead of paying for a doctor’s visit. Scheduling regular appointments like physicals can prevent illness vs. waiting until you get sick, saving time in the long run by keeping you out of the hospital.
